Šefela Nams
Elegance Restored in the Heart of Riga
At the front, the facade building offers grand apartments (50 to 140 m²) - many with original parquet and intricate ceiling decor. These homes are delivered in their current state - untouched.
In the courtyard, a second house awaits - more modest in size (15 to 40 m²), but full of thoughtful details: underfloor heating, air recovery, lift access, and views to a peaceful, soon-to-be-landscaped city garden.

Friedrich Scheffel was one of the most notable 19th-century German-Baltic architects in Riga. He mainly designed Art Nouveau buildings and, during his lifetime, supervised the construction of more than 35 residential and public buildings, leaving a strong mark on Riga’s historic urban fabric. He is the author of many celebrated Art Nouveau landmarks - including the Old Town Cat House, the residential building at Alberta iela 1 in the Quiet Centre, and many other remarkable houses across the capital.
Scheffel’s designs are known for asymmetrical facade compositions, well-thought-out layouts, and practical functionality. His buildings are not stylistically identical - which makes each project a unique Art Nouveau gem. One such gem is the apartment building constructed in 1908 at Baznīcas iela 5. “Šefela Nams” adorned the city with the same proud, dignified presence as it did a century ago - and it continues to do so today, reborn in a new light.
